Base44 reviewDescribe an app in plain English and get a working one with database, login and hosting
Excellent
Brent score, out of 5
Base44 is one of the fastest ways to go from an idea to a live, logged-in web app without writing code, because the database, authentication and hosting are already wired in. It is strongest for prototypes, internal tools and small products. Budget for credits: debugging spends the same credits as building, and the backend stays on Base44 even when you export code.

Best for
- Founders who want a working MVP to show users or investors this week
- Teams building internal tools, dashboards and simple portals
- Non-developers who need login, a database and hosting without setup
- Developers who want a fast scaffold and will sync it to GitHub
Skip it if
- Complex apps with heavy custom backend logic or strict data-residency needs
- Anyone who needs to move the database and backend to their own servers later
- Users who expect a fixed monthly cost no matter how much they iterate
You have an app idea, a spreadsheet that has outgrown itself, or a client portal you keep promising to build. Hiring a developer is slow and expensive, and most no-code tools still make you design the database, wire up logins and find somewhere to host it.
Base44 takes a different route. You describe what you want in plain language, and it generates the pages, the data model, user sign-in and the hosting in one go. You keep chatting to change it, and the app is live at a shareable URL as soon as it is built.
This review looks at what you actually get on each plan, how the two kinds of credits work, where users run into walls, and when a different tool is the better call.
What is Base44?
Base44 is an AI app builder that turns a written description into a full-stack web app: frontend, backend, database, authentication and hosting. You build by chatting with the AI, then refine in a visual editor or, on higher plans, edit the code directly and sync it with GitHub. It also builds websites and AI agents (Superagents) that connect to your tools. Usage is metered in message credits, spent when you prompt the builder, and integration credits, spent when your app or its agents use Base44's built-in services. Wix acquired Base44 in 2025 for an initial $80 million, and it runs as a distinct product.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Database, user authentication, analytics and hosting are built in, even on the free plan
- Unlimited apps on every paid plan, with custom domains and a free domain for the first year
- Two-way GitHub sync and in-app code editing from the Builder plan ($40/month annual)
- One-click integrations with Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Notion, HubSpot and Salesforce
- Payments through Wix Payments, so a simple paid app does not need a separate checkout setup
- Backed by Wix, which bought Base44 in 2025 and keeps it as a separate product
What could be better
- Credit-based: the free plan has only 25 message credits a month, and fixing AI mistakes spends credits too
- Reviewers report the AI can break older features when adding new ones on larger apps
- Code is portable through GitHub, but the managed backend and database do not move with you
- The listed prices are annual rates; the pricing page does not show monthly-billing prices

Key features of Base44
Prompt-to-app generation
Describe the app, its users and its data, and Base44 generates the screens, data tables and logic. You then refine it in conversation rather than starting from a blank canvas.
Built-in backend, database and auth
Every app comes with a managed database, user authentication and analytics, including on the free plan. You can explore, filter, import and export the data in your app's tables and set data permissions.
Hosting and custom domains
Apps are live and shareable as soon as they are built. Paid plans connect a custom domain and include a free domain for one year, with DNS and SSL handled if you buy through Wix.
Integrations and payments
One-click connections cover Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Notion, HubSpot and Salesforce, plus API calls to other services. Payments run through Wix Payments, and SSO sign-in can use Google Workspace, Microsoft, GitHub, Okta or another OIDC provider.
Code access and GitHub sync
From the Builder plan you can edit code in the app, choose the AI model and sync two ways with GitHub. The docs also describe an SDK, a CLI and a source-code export API for developers.
Superagents
Superagents are AI agents that automate workflows across your connected tools. They can be connected to channels such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Slack, and their usage draws on integration credits.

Validate a startup idea
A founder describes a booking app for local tutors, gets sign-up, a schedule table and an admin view in one session, and shares the live URL with ten tutors the same day. Feedback comes in before any developer is hired.
Replace a fragile spreadsheet
An operations lead turns a shared inventory spreadsheet into an app with logins, role-based permissions and a dashboard. Staff stop overwriting each other's rows, and the data can still be exported.
Client portal for a small agency
An agency builds a portal where clients log in, see project status and upload files, connected to Slack for notifications. A custom domain makes it look like part of the agency's own site.
How to get started with Base44
- 1
Sign up for the free plan; no credit card is needed.
- 2
Describe your app in a few sentences: who uses it, what data it stores and the main screens.
- 3
Test the generated app, then ask for changes one at a time to keep credit use low.
- 4
Connect integrations or a custom domain once the core flow works.
- 5
Upgrade to Starter or Builder when you hit the credit limit or need GitHub sync.

Base44: frequently asked questions
Is Base44 free?+
Yes. The free plan includes 25 message credits and 100 integration credits a month, up to 5 apps, plus the database, authentication and analytics. Paid plans start at $16/month billed annually.
Do I own my Base44 app and can I export the code?+
Base44 says you own your app, and two-way GitHub sync exports the source code to your own repository (GitHub is included from the Builder plan). The managed backend and database still run on Base44, so moving fully off the platform takes extra work.
What is the difference between message credits and integration credits?+
Message credits are used when you prompt the AI to build or change your app. Integration credits are used when your app or its agents call Base44's built-in services. Both reset monthly.
Is Base44 owned by Wix?+
Yes. Wix announced the acquisition of Base44 in 2025 for an initial $80 million plus later milestone payments. Base44 continues as a separate product, and its payments run on Wix Payments.
Can I use a custom domain with Base44?+
Yes, on any paid plan. Paid plans also include a free domain for the first year, and you can connect a domain you already own.
Can I cancel Base44 anytime?+
Base44's FAQ says you can cancel or change plans anytime, with changes taking effect at the next billing cycle, and your apps stay live.
Final verdict
Is Base44 worth it?
If you have an app idea or an internal tool stuck on a to-do list, Base44 is a low-risk way to see it working today. Start on the free plan, build your core screen and sign-in flow with the 25 monthly credits, and share the live link with real users. Upgrade only when the app is worth more credits.
